The West Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel has requested an urgent and full briefing following a damning report into how the region’s police handles discrimination complaints.
Yesterday, the Independent Police Complaints Commission criticised the way the West Yorkshire Police Force deals with allegations of discrimination.
It was one of three, with West Midlands and Greater Manchester, accused of “significant failings”.
Mark Burns-Williamson, the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire, said the IPCC’s findings were a “cause for real concern” and said he would be working with communities to make sure “we get it right”.
Now, Councillor Michael Walls (Con, Queensbury) who is a member of West Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel has requested that the Panel receives a full briefing on the report “at the earliest opportunity” to discuss the matter with Mr Williams.
He said: “The implications of this report, if it is as bad as it appears, are very serious.”
