A charity teddy bear zipwire challenge due to take place tomorrow to boost this year’s Lord Mayor’s Appeal has fallen victim to the weather.

Owing to the poor forecast, the event, which would have seen the cuddly toys descend from the tower of Bradford Cathedral, has had to be cancelled.

Organiser Katy Blake said: “Due to the appalling weather forecast for Saturday, and consequent great concern for the health and safety of participating teddy bears, the zip wire in aid of the Lord Mayor's Appeal has reluctantly been cancelled.”

At this stage, there are no plans to reschedule it.

An abseil from the top of the Jury’s Inn Hotel in Thornton Road, featuring the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain, and students from Grange Technology College, will still go ahead, raising funds for Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure.
