A man aged in his 20s was found dead following a blaze at a house in Hipperholme yesterday.

He was found by firefighters in one of the rooms at the semi-detached property on Waverley Crescent.

Fire crews, who were called at about 1.40pm, said the house was badly affected by the blaze.

Police were notified of the death but have since said there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson, of Calderdale police, said: “At 1.38pm on Sunday, June 1, police and fire service attended an address on Waverley Crescent, following reports of a house fire.

“The body of a local man aged in his 20s was recovered from the property. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file has been sent to the coroner.”
