Children from Bradford have been challenged to grow a sunflower with the ‘fattest face’ to raise funds for a charity working with young people with learning difficulties.

The competition is being run by the charity Bibic as part of its ‘Smile’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness of its Sponsor a UK Child initiative.

People will be asked to make a £1 donation when ordering their sunflower seeds, donated by online garden centre, potterandrest.co.uk, with vouchers on offer for regional and national winners.

Bibic chief executive Geoff Cummins said: “We hope lots of youngsters from Bradford will get involved in the competition to grow one of the smiliest plants around.”

In September, children will be asked to measure their sunflower across the middle of its ‘face’, before submitting their entry online, complete with a photo of the plant.
