More signs that the countdown to the Tour de France has begun in earnest have popped up in Otley.

Leeds City Council has attached ten official Yorkshire Grand Depart banners to lampposts along the Tour’s route through town.

The date was significant as it marked only 50 days remaining until the race’s first stage, from Leeds to Harrogate, goes through the town on Saturday, July 5.

Some of Otley’s businesses have also been getting in on the act, with The Otley Tavern, on New Market, temporarily renamed La Taverne Otley in honour of the great sporting event. The pub is also flying the Tricolore alongside British and Yorkshire flags.
