A 24-year-old man and a woman were arrested by armed officers in dramatic scenes on Blackpool sea front after a young mum was shot in front of her young child at her Bradford home.

The mum, aged 22, suffered two wounds to her stomach when shots were fired through windows at her home in Longfield Drive, East Bowling.

Yesterday morning, police boxed in a black Vauxhall Corsa carrying a man and a woman at South Shore in the Lancashire resort.

At least five officers carrying automatic weapons arrested the pair as a police helicopter circled overhead at about 11am.

Traffic was shut off on the Promenade for about 30 minutes until the Vauxhall was towed away by police.

The 24-year-old man was arrested on on suspicion of attempted murder and firearms offences following the shooting in Longfield Drive on Friday afternoon.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Two other men were also later arrested for the same reason.

The 22-year-old woman today remained in hospital where she is being treated for serious but not life threatening stomach injuries.

The child who was with her was not injured.

They were inside the modern semi-deatched house when shots were fired through windows in the front door and the kitchen at about 3.15pm on Friday.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Milsom, of West Yorkshire Police, said last night: "Inquiries began immediately to trace a man we wanted to speak to in connection with the incident and we worked through the night with our colleagues in Lancashire Police.

"A 24-year-old man was today arrested and two other men and a woman have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All were arrested in Lancashire."

"People in the communities we serve can be safe in the knowledge that we treat firearms incidents extremely seriously.

“As soon as the call came in about this incident we immediately dispatched officers, including armed response officers, to the scene to offer a reassuring presence and investigate what happened.”
