Yorkshire-born singer songwriter John Newman and Brighouse rock band Embrace have voiced their support for a group’s bid to transform the former Odeon building into a live music venue.

Bradford Live now wants the public to back its bid too and is asking people to complete an on-line survey.

The results will go to Bradford Council as the group works towards an end of May deadline to submit a business plan for the second stage of an expression of interest process.

Community organisation Bradford One is also working on a rival plan to take over the Odeon as an entertainment venue.

Bradford Live’s founder, Lee Craven, said: “We are convinced that the demand is there for a venue of this size in Bradford. We therefore appeal to Bradford people to complete this quick survey to tell us what they think.”

John Newman said: “Re-opening the Odeon would be a unique opportunity to create a modern music venue within an historic building. As a Yorkshireman it would be a privilege to be invited to perform there.”
