Two jobs have been created at a Bradford foodstore which has undergone a £415,000 refurbishment.

The Co-operative Food store in Thornton, which has been redesigned and given a new look, now employs 16 staff.

The upgraded store was officially launched by community worker Sarah Dean, from visual arts and heritage resource centre South Square, who was invited by Co-op staff to open the Thornton Road shop.

Meanwhile, an expanding estate agency group is creating new jobs, including an apprentice post, at its new office in Otley which is due to open this summer.

Hunters is recruiting staff for its new office in Kirkgate, which is being renovated. The business will be headed by director Lester Hurst, who launched its Ilkley operation in 2011.

Hunters was unable to confirm how many jobs would be created at Otley but said the apprentice would be trained under the National Apprenticeship scheme.

Lester said: “From our humble beginnings in 2010 working from my kitchen table, in just four years Hunters Ilkley has grown to become one of the leading estate agents in the Wharfe Valley.

“For the past two years we have been the best-performing northern branch in the Hunters national network, of which sales in the Otley area have contributed to this success.

“With the opportunity of growing our network further within this popular market town, I am looking forward to creating a home for Hunters in Otley for years to come.”

In 2013, Hunters took over Bingley estate agency Quinn Lettings & Property Sales. The firm invested £20,000 in its Ilkley operation. The Crescent Court office created two full-time jobs and one part-time. Hunters previously covered the Wharfe Valley from its Harrogate office.

Bradford-based motors group JCT 600 is also creating three new jobs after relocating the service team at its Volkswagen Van Centre in York to a nearby stand-alone site with five service bays, enabling it to more than double capacity.

After-sales manager Mark Flintoff said: “The expanded facilities have reduced waiting times for customers and further improved service. By moving servicing to a separate, larger site, we have been able to introduce operating efficiencies and a more focused approach to this specialist activity.”

Budget airline Ryanair said its new winter schedule from Leeds-Bradford Airport would serve more than 850,000 customers and help support around 850 airport jobs. The schedule features nine routes, including Gdansk, Riga and Tenerife.
