FOOTBALL: Witches denied as Bochonko dons gloves for Upwey

MANAGER Steve Reynolds was forced to field yet another outfield player in goal this season, as leading scorer Pete Bochonko found himself between the sticks for the Redlands outfit against Witchampton United.

Bochonko, who usually plies his trade as the spearhead of the Upwey & Broadway attack, was the third outfield player to don the gloves for Reynolds’ men this term after both Nathan Aston and Ryan Woodward had games in goal earlier this season.

But this didn’t stop Upwey & Broadwey winning their third league game on the spin.

Reynolds told Echosport: “It was either going to be Pete or Nathan that went in goal bec- ause they were both carrying knocks.

“It was just a case of deciding between the two of them and to be fair to Nathan he soldiered on until half-time up front.

“They missed a penalty and Pete pulled of a good save in the second half so he did well in all fairness.”

Reynolds’ men went in at the break 3-1 ahead thanks to goals from skipper Phil Anderson, Charlie Kenderdine and Sean Stewart as Sean Zima then raced to the ground from work to replace Aston at the inter- val.

And with Anderson notching once again in the second period, the points were secure for the home side, whose gruelling fixture schedule continues when they travel to Gillingham Town Reserves this evening (7.30pm).

He added: “It seems to be that when our backs are against the wall we perform well, so we will go to Gillingham and just see what happens.”

Elsewhere in the division, Portland United Reserves will be looking to build on their emphatic 7-1 win over whipping boys Okeford United as they take on Corfe Mullen United tonight (6.30pm).
