A TEAM of walkers has begun a 12-day journey from Lands End to John O’Groats for the Steve Prescott Foundation in memory of the charity's inspirational founder.
The eight-man team began the 900-mile challenge on Monday morning, including former Saints players Paul Sculthorpe, Tommy Martyn and Lee Briers, and former football referee and cancer survivor Mark Halsey.
Also among the walkers are SPF chairman Mike Denning, committee member Ade Cunliffe and State of Mind Trustee Phil Cooper, while ex-rugby player Jimmy Gittins, who is paraplegic after breaking his neck playing, is taking part on a specially designed hand cycle.
The daunting trek represents the first intense endurance challenge undertaken by the SPF since the death of its founder Steve last November, aged 39.
During the walk, the team will split into two groups to rotate the walking in eight-hour shifts.
It is hoped that the walkers will reach John O’Groats on Friday, May 16.
Proceeds from the walk will help the charity’s support of the Christie Hospital, Try Assist - the Rugby League Benevolent Fund and the Oxford Intestinal Unit.
