A cutting-edge design and manufacturing centre wants to inspire even more inventors and entrepreneurs through a permanent link-up with a neighbouring college.

Fab Lab Airedale, in Dalton Mill, Keighley, has now become part of Keighley Campus Leeds City College.

The facility is equipped with a range of machinery including vacuum moulding, 3D printing, laser cutters and vinyl cutters, which enables the design and manufacture of a huge range of products from furniture to engine components.

By joining the college the Fab Lab is aiming to strengthen its ties with education, and will offer students the opportunity to be involved in the world of engineering, manufacturing and enterprise.

A new programme of funded training activities will be introduced. Access to funding through the college will also allow the Fab Lab to expand its training provision for both businesses and the wider community.

College head of external funding and business enterprise, Jennie Beaumont, said: “This is an exciting development for both the Fab Lab and the college in Keighley, pooling resources and expertise to enable this facility to grow and continue to inspire and engage the local community.

“It will be able to accommodate everyone, from budding young inventors to meeting local business and industry needs.”
