Bradford East MP David Ward has been shortlisted for an award as a result of his work to improve the way social care is provided in the communities he represents.
Changes being introduced by Bradford Council mean people will become eligible for paid care when their need is ‘substantial’ rather than ‘moderate’ as a result of increased pressure on its adult social care budget.
In response Mr Ward conducted a detailed analysis of the proposals and sent surveys to 35,000 households, held a summit attended by those affected by dementia and held meetings with charities including Age UK and the Bradford Alliance on Community Care to discuss the effects of the Social Care White Paper.
He also worked with the national disability charity Scope to start the Bradford Cares campaign against cuts to social care.
That work has earned him a place on the Grassroot Diplomat Initiative Awards shortlist, selected from among 70 candidates for the awards’ second year.
