Bradford rail groups have demanded further improvement despite Northern Rail revealing its best punctuality figures during this month.

Northern Rail, which runs local regional services, outlined its overall performance figures for April, showing this month was its best since the start of its franchise in 2004.

During the past month, 95.26 per cent of services departed and arrived on time in line with the industry’s Performance and Punctuality Measure.

Tim Calow, chairman of the Aire Valley Rail Users’ Group, said: “These figures are not bad but could be better.

“More capacity is needed in Airedale. Nothing will be happening until the new franchise comes in in February 2016.”

Mr Calow’s views were echoed by James Vasey, chairman of the Bradford Rail Users’ Group, who said: “We are still campaigning for more improvements to trains that we get.

“Some are over 30 years old on the line.

“Now it’s time to get passengers’ satisfaction figures up as well. Then we will all be very happy.”
