Ilkley artist Joy Godfrey is using her creative flair to stay on track with preparations for this summer’s Tour de France Grand Depart when it passes through the town.

She has created a new eye-catching work of art using tyre marks to help recreate on canvas the town’s most famous landmark – the Cow and Calf Rocks.

Even the clouds looming above the rocks are in the form of tyre tracks and in the far right hand corner is an ant-sized single cyclist.

She said: “I have just produced a new screenprint edition inspired by the very topical Tour de France – I nearly didn’t bother as I thought this event will spawn innumberable artefacts, but then I got the idea of a print made from bicycle tyre marks."

The screen print, which is an exclusive editon of only 27, although reproductions will be available, is now hanging in pride of place on show at Ilkley Cycles on Skipton Road.
