Poppies will be sown in Bradford and Keighley tomorrow as part of a joint act of remembrance across the new Church of England Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
The acting Bishop of Bradford, Bishop Tom Butler, will attend St Stephen’s at West Bowling in the city to plant seeds in planters used by the church’s gardening project.
Bishop Tom will also be presented with one of the knitted poppy badges made recently by a group of Gurkhas who live locally and attend St Stephen’s knitting group.
In Keighley, poppies will be sown by the Mayor of Keighley, Coun Sally Walker, council representatives, members of the Royal British legion and others in two flower beds to the south of Keighley Shared Church (St Andews).
They are among a series of similar events taking place across the area throughout the course of the day.
