A Bradford man and his 63-year-old mother were being sentenced at Leeds Crown Court today after a jury convicted them of an attack on their next-door neighbour that left him fighting for life with 16 stab wounds.

Nadeem Nawaz, 25, and Fazilat Nawaz, both of Ringwood Road, Canterbury, were warned by Judge Peter Benson to expect lengthy prison sentences.

Nadeem Nawaz was found guilty of attempting to murder Mohammed “Raza” Shah in the street shortly after midnight on September 30 last year.

Fazilat Nawaz was convicted of wounding Mr Shah, 26, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

She struck Mr Shah with her shoe while he was being attacked by her son.

Nadeem Nawaz was locked up awaiting sentence. His mother was granted bail.
