A former Bradford councillor and Lady Mayoress has died peacefully after a long illness.
Mavis Wood, whose husband Tom Wood was Lord Mayor in 1963-64, died aged 82 in a nursing home in Buckinghamshire.
When she was 22 she was the youngest councillor at the time to serve on Bradford Council where she met her husband.
She was widowed three years ago and the couple had one son, Doug. She also leaves a granddaughter Camilla.
Mrs Wood was presented with the MBE in 1990 for her work in the careers service which she joined in Bradford in 1971.
Her father Douglas Emmott was also awarded the MBE in 1957 for his work as a regional secretary of the National Federation of Building Trades Operatives. She moved to be nearer her son in Olney, Bucks.
