A pub jumped back to the 1950s and celebrated St George’s Day with a baking and fancy dress competition in aid of cancer charity Marie Curie.
Fancy-dressed regulars at the Sun Hotel in Kirkgate, Shipley, brought cakes, buns and savouries to be judged as part of the fun, organised by landlady Rachel Leek.
“We’ve got a Teddy Boy, a James Dean and some 1950s housewifes and plenty of cakes already,” she said shortly before the judging took place. “We wanted to do something special to celebrate St George’s Day and make sure it helped charity at the same time,” said Miss Leek.
“We chose Marie Curie to benefit from the event as we have lost quite a few of our customers to cancer and have a number of customers with different forms of the disease at present.” The day began with the bake-off then moved onto a fancy dress competition in the evening.
