A man who died after a car crash above Bingley has been named by police.

Christopher Crowther died after his blue MG ZR car was in collision with a white VW Crafter van.

Police have also revealed that the 33- year-old lived in Moor Close Lane, Queensbury. His next-of-kin are said to have been told of his death.

The fatal incident happened on Otley Road, High Eldwick, at about 3.55pm on Tuesday.

The Major Collision Enquiry Team would like to speak to anyone who has information about the crash, which took place beside Graincliffe Reservoir.

The car had been travelling west towards East Morton and the van had been travelling east. Initial enquiries suggest the MG had crossed into the opposite lane just before the collision.

Mr Crowther, whose name was released by police yesterday, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the incident.

PC Andy Oversby, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are conducting enquiries into this incident and would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.

“Anyone who can assist should contact myself at the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”

Mr Crowther’s body was removed from the scene shortly before 7.30pm. His car – an MG Rover, said police – was taken away at about 8.30pm.

Speaking on the night of the collision, a police spokesman said: “For whatever reason, the Rover seems to have lost control and collided with a van that was travelling in the other direction.

“The circumstances of the crash are being investigated.”

There were two men in the van at the time of the collision, said police.

Both are believed to have been ‘walking wounded’ and went to Bradford Royal Infirmary for check-ups.

Some people in nearby Dick Hudsons knew there had been a crash but were unaware of what exactly had happened.
