Surprises are promised at the second RATMA film festival being held in Keighley on Saturday.

Festival head Marcus Gregg said many of the short films due to be screened were of Hollywood standard.

He urged Keighley people to take up the opportunity of watching short movies from around the world on their doorstep.

He said: “Several films are making their European festival debuts. This year we have zombie films, war films, love stories and original comedies.”

RATMA – the River Aire Ten-Minute Amateur international film festival – takes place at the Keighley Campus of Leeds City College.

People can drop in between 11am and 5pm to watch the non-stop screening of movies in several rooms.

Viewers vote for their favourite films, and the winners will be announced during a gala screening at Keighley Picture House on Saturday evening.

Mr Gregg said the genres included animation, art, comedy, documentary, drama, music and sci-fi/thriller.

He said: “My favourite films this year are comedies, the originality and production quality has been brilliant.

“The serious films in the drama genre are all of exceptional quality and selection was difficult because the diversity and production values are so good.

“Also in this year’s event are films from the sub-continent, including dramas, documentaries and travel logs from India and Pakistan.

“This year we have also included a music genre, which has been well worth doing.”

Several movies filmed in Keighley have been entered in the festival, including two from local film-maker Danny Hardaker.

One of these is #Eatbrains which Danny created with a group of teenagers at arts group Smallworld.

RATMA received more than 200 entries from across the globe, and more than 60 have been chosen for screening on Saturday.

People who watch the films on Saturday are invited to make a donation to Cancer Research. UK. All running costs for the festival have already been covered by sponsors.
