A Bradford youth group put its own spin on the ‘Cottingley Fairies’ photographs as part of project to delve into local history.

Members of Cottingley youth club have made their own modern versions of the artwork, which is housed in the National Media Museum in Bradford, after visiting the site where the original pictures were taken in 1917, by cousins, Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths.

Six of the new pictures are now on display in the Cottingley Cornerstones Centre, near Bingley.

Gemma Booth, a Bradford Council youth worker who led the 14-week project, said the youngsters enjoyed doing their own research into the famous story.

“They have really enjoyed the practical side of the project,” she said. “Creating the creatures for the new pictures really brought out their artistic side and gave the story a modern twist.”
