Plans for new signs on a grade II-listed pub in Saltaire have been refused by planners after being deemed “excessive”.
Osset Brewery had applied for permission to install several signs with a new logo for The Old Tramshed in Bingley Road but the application has been refused by Bradford Council.
Officers said that although some of the signs were acceptable, others would amount to “clutter” at a significant historic site. Their report says: “The building is a former tram shed dating from 1904. It is one of very few such buildings protected nationally, and one of the most architecturally significant examples.
“The proposed number and variety of signs are considered to unnecessary and that they would add significantly to visual clutter in the street scene, while adversely affecting the listed building itself; the Saltaire Conservation Area and potentially the Saltaire World Heritage Site.”
