A pub is taking a step back in time to celebrate St George’s Day with a baking and fancy dress competition to raise money for a cancer charity.

The Sun Hotel in Kirkgate, Shipley, is holding a 1950s-themed day, when customers will be asked to bake buns, pies or cakes – sweet or savoury – to go before a panel of judges.

Entries will then be sliced up and sold for donations to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The St George’s Day party has been organised by The Sun’s managers Mick Street and Rachel Leek, who will be providing a free buffet in the afternoon.

It begins with the bake-off at noon. All entries must be submitted by 4pm, with the winner receiving a £50 bar tab. There will be a 1950s fancy dress contest in the evening with a £25 bar tab up for grabs, and a rock ’n’ roll tribute act will kick off at 7pm. For more information, call (01274) 530757.
