An animal cruelty case was adjourned by magistrates yesterday because the 62-year-old defendant turned up at court in a bra and hotpants.

Eileen Colman, of St Mary’s Crescent, Wyke, was deemed to be inappropriately dressed by staff at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court when she arrived.

She was due to face 15 charges under the Animal Welfare Act, including 12 of failing to ensure the needs of animals in her care were met. The animals include cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, a hamster and a ferret. The three other charges relate to causing unnecessary suffering to a dog and two hamsters.

A court spokesman said the case had been adjourned until May 6, and added: “She did not come appropriately dressed.”
