Bradford College has won a Cycle Challenge which pitted staff and students from universities and colleges in Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield to cycle as many miles as possible in a month.

More than 100 staff and students cycled 2,578 journeys covering 30,000 miles around West Yorkshire between March 10 and April 11. The city’s college took the Best College Award, beating rivals Kirklees College and Leeds College of Art by 350 journeys.

Leeds Metropolitan University made 967 of the journeys winning the Best University award.

The Inter-University and College Cycle Challenge was organised by Sustrans’ projects UTravelActive in Leeds, Bradford Bike Hub and Huddersfield Active Travel, in partnership with wy go:cycling. Sustrans’ active travel officer Jennie O’Hara said: “The challenge was a huge success.”
