A 34-year-old man who burst into his former partner’s home and stole from it while on bail for attacking her has been spared an immediate jail sentence.
Terence Kay, of Brookfield Road, Barkerend, Bradford, grabbed Amanda Edwards in the doorway of her flat, pushed her aside and helped himself to a phone, cigarettes and a can of lager, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to burgling Miss Edwards’ home, in Cunliffe Road, Manningham, on October 12 last year.
Prosecutor James Bourne-Arton said Kay defied a court order not to contact Miss Edwards when he banged on her door at 3.20pm.
Kay had two previous convictions for house burglary, as part of a criminal record that included theft from his employer, criminal damage and common assault.
The judge, Recorder Sarah Dodd, sentenced Kay to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with supervision for 18 months and 120 hours of unpaid work.
