A couple celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary asked for donations to Manorlands hospice in Oxenhope instead of gifts.

Patrick and Henrietta Duff, of North Dean Avenue, Keighley, decided to mark the occasion with a party at Keighley Civic Centre.

Mr Duff, 82, said: “We’ve had some friends who were cared for by this hospice, so we’re big supporters.”

He and his wife, 79, are originally from Dublin, which is where they met. After marrying they moved to England in 1953.

Mr Duff has previously worked for Ondura Tyre Company, and was a bus conductor and a foundry machinist. Mrs Duff worked for the National Switch Factory for 38 years.

Mr Duff added: “We’ve been very happy together.”

He said the anniversary is next Saturday, but the celebration was brought forward to enable more friends and family to attend.
