A service will be held in Bradford Cathedral this Saturday to celebrate 95 years of the Diocese of Bradford – shortly before it loses that status.

Bradford, along with the dioceses of Wakefield and Ripon & Leeds, comes to an end on Easter Sunday when the new Diocese of West Yorkshire & the Dales comes into being.

The outgoing Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Rev Nick Baines, who takes over the new super-diocese on June 8, will give a sermon.

He said: “As we’re on the brink of a new future we want to celebrate all that’s gone before, including the faithfulness of the people of this diocese over the last 95 years.

“It’s not a funeral. It’s another stage in a process which, I am convinced, will enhance the life and work of the Church of England in the Bradford district.”

Past and present members will attend the 3pm service.
