A safety inspection on a skate park has forced its temporary closure.

The annual Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) report has resulted in the skate park in Skipton’s Aireville Park being closed for the Easter school holidays.

Craven District Council, which is in the process of re-designing the park, is looking at what needs to be done so it can be re-opened as soon as possible.

A spokesman said: “The council has closed the skate park until an independent site risk assessment and report has been received which will judge the facility against the British Standard for wheeled sports.

“Clearly this is disappointing as we are only a matter of months away from hearing whether we have been successful with a number of funding applications for a new skatepark but the safety of the users is paramount.”
