Pupils from schools across Bradford got a true taste of the music biz at a contest with a difference in St George’s Hall tonight.

The Association of Music and Promotion awards were being held in Bradford for the first time after several years of competitions in Leeds and Harrogate.

Schools choose a band to represent them, and are then asked to also involve students to form teams to help with marketing, management, photography and social media.

In Bradford the schools that took part were Queensbury School, represented by Noomy Unicorns, Shipley College (Rook), Carlton Bolling College (Yours’ Truly), and Belle Vue Girls School (Crude).

Coming out on top were four-piece rock band Rook, who won the judges over with their tight guitar work and confident stage presence, with acoustic duo Yours’ Truly coming second.

Rook will now go on to compete against the winners of other Yorkshire legs at the Galtres Parklands Festival at Duncombe Park in August.

Winning the business side was Belle Vue School’s Phonyx, the students that handled the event’s PR.
