Young community heroes got a special thank you from the Lord Mayor of Bradford.

Councillor Khadim Hussain met pupils from Carlton Bolling College, known as ambassadors, who have given up their own time to take part in litter-picks, fundraisers and events designed to bring different communities together.

They are also helping to develop an outdoor learning and storytelling area at Undercliffe Cemetery, alongside Council wardens, Undercliffe Cemetery Trust and Otley Road and Barkerend Environment Group.

The Lord Mayor was special guest at a celebration event at the school, in Undercliffe, where he handed out certificates to all those who had taken part.

Head teacher Adrian Kneeshaw said he was amazed at the volume and diversity of the community projects the pupils had been involved in.

He said: “All concerned should be immensely proud of their achievements.”

Coun Hussain said: “I was thrilled about the way Carlton Bolling has created this partnership with a number of private sector and community organisations.

“It was superb – that’s how schools should be.”
