Keighley Labour Party is marking the 20th anniversary of former MP Bob Cryer’s death.

A minute’s silence will be held before the start of canvassing on Saturday, and tribute will be paid at a constituency meeting in the Devonshire Street offices named after him.

Mr Cryer (pictured) was MP for Keighley for nine years, until 1983, and served as Bradford South MP from 1987 until his death at 59 in a car crash in 1994. John Grogan, Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Keighley, said: “Bob was the only politician in the last 50 years to hold Keighley against the national trend, which he did for the Labour party by just 78 votes in the 1979 general election.”
