The organisers of the annual Keighley Show have appointed a new president.

Tim Robinson, Market Street development director for Morrisons supermarkets, was chosen at the latest annual meeting of the Keighley & District Agricultural Show Society.

He has been involved with the event for many years, following his father Barry Robinson who held the office of president in 1982 and 2007. Other officials elected were chairman William Mitchell, secretary Katrina Thackray and treasurer and president-elect Christine Highley.

A show spokesman said: “Our retiring president, Jean Harker of Oakworth, said despite being very disappointed that the 2012 show had to be cancelled due to extremely wet ground conditions, she had thoroughly enjoyed what was in effect her second year as president.

“She thanked everyone for making it a memorable day. Chairman William Mitchell presented Jean with a photograph album as a memento of show day. He also thanked everyone involved for their continued assistance and hard work. He stressed the importance of this support, particularly following what had been a difficult year financially due to the enforced cancellation the year before.”

He said they were looking for businesses, organisations and individuals to support the occasion. Sponsorship packages are available. People can go online to keighleyshow.co.uk. This year’s event is on Saturday September 6. They can e-mail secretary@keighleyshow.co.uk or call (01535) 633852.
