Adventurers taking part in Manorlands’ 40th anniversary trek to Nepal have met up for the first time.

The 20-strong team gathered at the hospice and discussed preparations for the trip in November.

The ten-day trek – which will start in Pokhara, known as ‘the jewel in the Himalayas’ – is expected to raise about £60,000.

Manorlands fundraiser Hayley Ibbotson said: “It was great to get everyone together to give our trekkers the opportunity to meet each other before they travel to Nepal and to share their training and fundraising plans.

“We’ve got a great mix of people signed up, all from different backgrounds and age ranges, which makes for a fantastic team atmosphere. Everyone has a different reason for taking part. Some are trekking in memory of a loved one, some are doing it for the experience and some just want to support their hospice.

Among those taking part is Mandy Smith, finance officer at the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice. Places are still available on the trek. Call (01535) 640430 or e-mail hayley.ibbotson@sueryder.org for further information.
