Two men have been arrested after armed police and the dog unit were called to reports of a man possibly carrying a gun in East Bowling.
An onlooker said two men were in handcuffs and police had now gone into a house on Coventry Street.
She said armed police had also been on New Hey Road and were asking people to stay back.
A police spokesman said they were called at 4.38pm to reports of a man possibly carrying a firearm.
Two men, aged 19 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm.
