Haworth’s 40-year wait for a new bandstand in Central Park is finally over.
The structure has been installed in the park following a campaign to replace the original. A programme of entertainment has already been put together to make use of the facility.
The original bandstand was removed in the early 1970s for refurbishment and never returned.
Working with Bradford Parks & Landscapes department, a Friends of Haworth Park Group was formed, which took up the challenge to replace the bandstand alongside Haworth Village Trust.
Friends group chairman Gillian Hill said: “I’d like to thank the many generous people and organisations who have made this possible.
“The revolutionary new design, manufactured by Andy Thornton of Elland, is a performance arts structure, which has no supporting posts at the front.
“So as well as music, it can be used for a wide range of other performances.
“A £10,000 grant from our district councillors helped put the base in place and further grants from Bradford Council secured a new design and planning permission.
