Heaton took a step back in time when courtiers and tenants of the Lord of the Manor enjoyed a traditional rent dinner.
Lord of the Manor, Christopher Ball (pictured), followed in the footsteps of his predecessor and uncle, Stanley King, in holding the dinner, which was at Heaton Mount on Emm Lane.
On payment of a rent of 28 guineas, residents and friends of Heaton were entertained to a dinner, alongside Mr Ball and the Steward of the Manor Wilfred Shaw. The tradition dates back to the 18th century.
Mr Ball said: “Until a century or so ago, the Lord of the Manor of Heaton would hold a great dinner or feast for all the tenants of the Manor who had paid their annual rents. This tradition lasted hundreds of years but came to an end when the Manor ceased to be a commercial estate in the early 20th century.”
