A food shop worker who allegedly posted racist and insensitive comments on Facebook about Sobia Yousef’s tragic suicide in Shipley has been charged with a racially-aggravated offence, West Yorkshire Police said.

Daniel Johnson, 27, of Shipley, was removed from his job at the town’s branch of Fultons Food on Wednesday after his bosses were made aware of posts on his Facebook account regarding the death of Mrs Yousef in the nearby Asda store the day before.

Inspector Hugh Robinson, of the Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “A 27-year-old man has been charged as part of an investigation in to comments posted on social media.

“Daniel Johnson, of Shipley, has been charged with a racially-aggravated public order offence and released on bail to appear at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 8.”

Barnsley-based Fulton Foods put a statement on the front door of its Shipley shop distancing itself from the comments.
