“Spritely” Gertrude Ormondroyd celebrated her 100th birthday with a party and a visit from Bradford’s Deputy Lord Mayor yesterday.
Councillor Joanne Dodds was at Bierley Court Care Home to help Mrs Ormondroyd, known as Gertie, mark the milestone occasion.
Born in Liverpool, Gertie came to Bradford as a girl and worked in the mills while leaving in the Otley Road area. She married Joseph Ormondroyd in February 1934 at St Augustine’s Church. They had eight children, including one who now lives in Australia.
Home manager Julie-Ann Fitton said: “Gertie is very spritely and outgoing, always telling a lot of jokes. She joins in anything that’s happening in the home, and is always bubbly and friendly to everyone.”
