A former Lady Mayoress of Bradford has died suddenly, it was announced yesterday.
Joyce Lightowler died shortly after going to bed on Tuesday. She was 89.
Only last week, she and her husband, Arnold, held a family gathering to celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary and had planned a party for friends in Harrogate on April 11. This has now been cancelled.
The Lightowlers were Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress in 1980/81.
Mrs Lightowler was a founder member of the Shipley Ladies Coffee Club and attended Shipley Ladies Luncheon Club for many years until infirmity affected her ability to travel from Boroughbridge, where she and her husband had lived for some 20 years.
Mr Lightowler is to return to live at Southlands residential care home in Harrogate where he convalesced following illness last autumn.
Funeral details have yet to be arranged.
