Bradford’s status as a City of Sanctuary, first awarded three years ago, has been endorsed by the national City of Sanctuary movement, following a thorough review.

The award recognises Bradford’s good record of welcoming and including people seeking asylum who have arrived in the city.

A certificate marking the award was presented to the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain, by Tiffy Allen, national co-ordinator of the City of Sanctuary movement, at a ceremony at City Hall.

Bradford Council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Imran Hussain, said: “This is an important award for Bradford, which has long established traditions of tolerance and humanitarianism and of offering safe haven to people fleeing persecution.”
