Bradford had the highest number of cases of tuberculosis in Yorkshire and the Humber last year, figures reveal.
The city had 160 reported cases in 2013 – more than a quarter of the region’s combined total of 579.
The next highest figure was in Leeds, where there were 116 cases.
The figures were released yesterday which was World TB Day.
Now, TB experts at Public Health England in Yorkshire and the Humber are warning that more needs to be done to ensure people living with the infection receive the support they need.
Dr Ebere Okereke, consultant in communicable disease control at the Public Health England Yorkshire and the Humber centre, said: “Every year three million people worldwide don’t get the care they need to fight TB.
“This World TB Day we are working with the NHS, local authorities and community groups across Yorkshire and the Humber to raise awareness about TB and improve access to treatment."
