A school said a fond farewell to two Japanese pupils by having a day of events themed on their country.

Brother and sister Ryota and Miyami Yamanaka have been going to Glenaire Primary School in Baildon for just over a year while their father was working on secondment at the University of Leeds.

But the family are now returning to Japan.

So to give the siblings a special farewell, the school held a Japanese-themed day, complete with kimonos, chopsticks, noodles and Oriental art.

Children also went into school dressed in red and white, the colours of the Japanese flag.

School teacher Shahnaz Bi said: “We thought it would be a nice way to send them off.”
