A runner is aiming to take this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon in his stride to support the life saving work of St John Ambulance.

Steve Johnson (pictured right), of Drighlington, will run with Richard Baker (pictured left), of Morley, in this year’s event, taking place on Sunday, April 13.

Mr Johnson, 35, said he had been inspired by the first-aiders who came to his rescue when he pulled a hamstring at the Great Northern Run two years ago. “I think they are a fantastic charity and I want to help their cause,” he said. “They are at every sporting event, large or small, as well as the fun days and festivals we take our kids to.”

Earlier this month, the pair raised more than £3,000 at a fun day held at their sports club to add to the £1,000 sponsorship they have attracted so far.
