Police are trying to trace a man thought to have been driving a car involved in a serious crash last night.

Umbar Ali, aged 39, is believed to have been behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Zafira, which collided with an Alfa Romeo travelling in the opposite direction on Queen's Road, Manningham, at about 9.30pm.

Mr Ali, who is from the Bradford area and could have been injured in the crash, fled the scene of the accident, which happened at the junction with Valley Road. He has not been seen since.

Two passengers in the Zafira aged four and two, were taken to hospital with serious, but not thought to be life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of the Alfa Romeo, aged 34 and 32, also suffered serious injuries and were also taken to hospital.

One woman suffered a broken collarbone in the crash. Firefighters cut the roof off the smaller vehicle to free the woman passenger and the male driver. A fire service spokesman said the man was suffering from suspected spinal injuries.

The spokesman added: “It was a fairly high-speed impact, which is why most of the people in the cars got injuries and ended up going to hospital.”

Bolton Lane, near its junction with Queen’s Road, was closed for about three hours after the crash.

Inspector Joanne Field of the Western Area Roads Policing Unit, said: "We are actively trying to locate Mr Ali as he might be needing hospital treatment as a result of this collision, and would ask for him or anyone who knows him to contact the Western Area Roads Policing Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
