The M62 westbound was closed for around 40 minutes this evening after a crash involving five vehicles between Chain Bar and Gildersome.

Seven people were injured in the crash, which happened at around 8.26pm in lanes three and four of the motorway near junction 27.

Vehicles and debris were left strewn across the road and emergency services were called.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances, a clinical supervisor, rapid response vehicle and a hazardous area response team.

Seven people were treated for minor injuries, with some being taken to Leeds General Infirmary for further treatment.

All lanes were closed until just after 9pm when two lanes were opened. A spokesman for the highways agency said all lanes should now be open, but there may be delays due to debris on the road.
