Figures released yesterday by the Office of National Statistics showed that 98 more people claimed Jobseekers’ Allowance in February than the previous month. In January, 17,244 people claimed JSA in Bradford – compared with 17,342 last month.
However, the latest number is almost 3,000 less than the same time last year – when the figure was 20,223.
Across Yorkshire, there are 41,000 more people in work compared with this time last year, according to the figures. Nationally, the number of people out of work fell by 63,000 to 2.33 million in the three months to January.
