Otley’s Asda store is trying to extend its opening hours.

The supermarket has attempted on several occasions to increase its hours from those agreed before it gained planning permission.

Those efforts have been opposed by ward councillors.

The Cross Green store is now only seeking to increase its Saturday opening times, which are currently 8.30am to 6pm, to 8.30am to 8pm.

Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said: “In the past there has been considerable concern about inappropriate activity outside permitted opening hours on this site.

“I understand that the store has taken action to try to deal with this.

“However, because of its location within a residential area this is still a sensitive application and I hope the store will contact residents to explain their plans and what they intend to do reduce the impact on their neighbours. This will allow the public to make an informed decision on whether to support or oppose this plan.”

The supermarket opened at the former Netto site in 2011.
