A husband appeared in the dock at Bradford Crown Court yesterday accused of murdering his wife.

Danish Irfan, 22, of Alford Terrace, Lidget Green, Bradford, is accused of killing Ridda Zanab at their home address.

The body of the 21-year-old, the mother of Irfan’s baby daughter, was found in an upstairs bedroom in the early hours of November 3 last year.

Irfan was arrested at Manchester Airport last month after he arrived on a flight from Pakistan.

He was taken to Bradford for questioning by West Yorkshire Police and later charged with his wife’s murder.

No plea to the charge was entered by Irfan yesterday and the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, set a trial date for July 21.

The defendant spoke only to confirm his name and the court proceedings were translated to him by an interpreter.

Irfan’s counsel Yunus Valli told the court that a pyschiatrist would be seeing his client.

“All avenues need to be investigated,” Mr Valli told the court.

Judge Thomas remanded Irfan in custody until his next court appearance on May 2 The trial in July has been scheduled to last five days.

Irfan and his wife were married in 2012. Their six-month-old daughter is being cared for by relatives.
