People who give up their time to help others have been thanked with a special afternoon tea in Shipley.

Volunteers at the Carers’ Resource were treated to cakes and sandwiches at the Interlude Café in recognition of the work they do to support carers and vulnerable people.

The group, aged 18 to 80-plus, helps the charity in Park View Court by making weekly telephone calls to carers and people who live alone as part of the Caring Callers project, while others help people after they have had a stay in hospital, as part of the Home from Hospital service.

Volunteers also play a role in supporting social groups and activities, while some help with admin and office tasks.

Jeanette Procter, Carers’ Resource volunteer project co-ordinator, said: “All our volunteers are absolutely fantastic.

“They are all vital to the services we provide and it’s great to be able to show them how much they mean to us by inviting them to enjoy meeting others in lovely surroundings.

“Whatever people’s age or background we are keen to hear from them and get them on board.”
